Concrete Lilies

Materials: wire mesh, wire, wood block, masking tape, white glue, hot glue, condoms, latex gloves.

Dimension: 36 x 25 x 25 inches

“I liked white lilies since I was little, but I didn't realize that it wasn't acceptable for boys to like flowers; it was considered a feminine interest. Boys were taught to be supposed to only like ‘cars or guns’.”

As I gradually uncover the layers of this world, I simultaneously forge a connection with myself, and reflect upon my own identity, symbolized by the lily, conversing with the expectation of social gender.

This work serves as a contemplative exploration of identity, femininity, and the juxtaposition of strength and fragility in a world where societal norms often dictate notions of perfection.
